Back in the Blogging Game: A Decade Later

It's been over a decade since I last wrote a blog post, but I'm excited to be back. I started blogging in 1998, and it's been a wild journey ever since. So much has changed in my life, and I'm eager to share it all with you.

Busy life

Work has been a major focus for me in the past few years. I've had the opportunity to work as an Engineering Leader at some great startups, including:

  • CrowdRise from 2011 to 2017
  • GoFundMe, which acquired Crowdrise, from 2017 to 2018
  • Wag from 2018 to 2020
  • UJET from 2020 to now

In addition to my work in the tech industry, I also had the privilege of teaching Interactive Design at the Art Center College of Design for four years (2011-2015). I was able to share my knowledge and experience with students, and it was incredibly rewarding. However, I also had to make some tough choices about my priorities. I retired from the San Bernardino Cave and Technical Rescue team after being on the team from 2004 to 2013. This was a difficult decision, but I felt that it was the right thing to do at the time. I also stopped shooting for WIRED News, which I did from 2007 to 2011 as it changed something I considered a hobby (photography) into work, which took the fun out of it.

One of the most significant changes in my life was meeting my soulmate, Lori Sue Prince in 2016. We hit it off from the moment we met, and our love only grew stronger over time. We got married in 2021 and had a beautiful baby boy, Wesley Daniel Bullock, in July 2022. Being a parent has been an incredible experience, and I'm grateful to have such a supportive and loving partner by my side.

My old website

My old website was stale, and I knew I needed to make some changes. But with so much going on in my life, I just didn't have the time. I also had a ton of photos (now around 300k) that needed sorting, captioning, uploading, and more. But now, I'm finally ready to tackle those tasks and get back into blogging.

Revamping My Stale Website with AI/ML Magic

With so much going on in my life, it's been a challenge to keep my website up to date. Yet, I've got a secret weapon up my sleeve: a full application using AI/ML to help me sort, caption, and upload my massive collection of photos (now around 300k). Get ready to see my photos in a whole new light!

What I want to share

I intend to use my platform to share my thoughts and reflections on the journey I've been on. I aim to write about my experiences as an Engineering Leader, my time teaching at the Art Center College of Design, and my journey as a new parent. Likewise, I will also share my thoughts on the tech industry and the latest developments in the world of startups. Furthermore, I believe that blogging is a great way to connect with others who are passionate about the same things I am, and I'm eager to hear from you.

So, here's to getting back into blogging. I'm excited to share my thoughts and connect with others. Let's see where this journey takes us!
